As the timeline advances, Tori starts to display qualities reminiscent of Ibara, much like how younger, immature Ibara resembled Tori. It makes me think that, on a completely platonic level, Yuzuru has a type of person he's drawn to protect. I liked the idea of Atlantis Yuzuru being protective of Tori and Ibara as little fish.
